Home Alone…

Somedays I am soo happy to have a daughter. Megan will never know how much I love her, or how much joy she brings to my life. (Or how much tiny little pains either.) The first grade has brought a lot of firsts for her– her first outing with a friend, first friend to turn around and say that they weren’t friends anymore, first crush. She’s so sweet, and yet when I look at her, I can’t help remembering her as a little baby thinking that she was so tiny. She’s becoming a person before my eyes, an independent one at that. And yet, you can tell just how much a parent’s tastes influence their child’s tastes, how much a parent’s sense of humor can influence their child, etc.

Lately, since it is that time of the year, Home Alone and all of its spawns have been playing. I have never heard such diabolical laughter as when Megan is watching these movies. She has just as cracked a sense of humor as me and Barry… I should have figured when I found out her favorite Christmas song on the iPod was by Bob Rivers… I am truly blessed. Tomorrow we are going to the salon together, I’m doing a manicure/pedicure, and Megs is getting a pedicure. She is hysterical when @ the salon, but I have Christmas shopping to do and am not sure I want to go all out, but I promised. She deserves it. :) Why am I not sure? Because Megan is getting concert tickets to see High School Musical for her birthday, which is the 24th of January, and the concert is on the 26th of January. However… I have been watching ticketmaster and I have a feeling they will need to be ordered fairly soon, and at nearly $60 a pop… ouch. It’s a good present though, considering she’s getting the soundtrack and dvd for Christmas.

I am on my way to bed, but realized that I hadn’t put up some long promised pictures.

First, I just realized that my computer ate the pics of what Jen sent me, the truly divalicious reindeer… so I must find it. But I wanted to share what I sent her… but apparently those pictures are on the other computer that Barry killed. Urgh.

Ok, SP box of cheer!

The beautiful banana silk and sari yarn… oooh and my sheep. I must take a picture of my sheep collection and my penguins after Christmas!

Yeah, shamefully guys, that’s me, acting a fool @ the crappiest, saddest, most in need of cleaning up beach I have ever been to in Long Beach, 1 year to the day after having surgery. I need to take a better picture. LMAO.

And… now… Spooky Penguin, the Zombie Penguin named for Fox Mulder.

He really, really wants you to click on him to see more pictures of his cuteness. Spooky is for Jen’s husband Josh. I started with a penguin from Jean Greenhowe’s Knitted Toys, then I added a little gut pocket in his side by making a steek, cutting it, and attempting to pick up stitches on the wrong side– I managed to do that without mangling him too badly. Then instead of knitting in the round, I double knit his gut pocket. When I was done with that I crap/crazy crocheted a single chain, mangling my stitches into grotesque clots here and there to simulate guts, and attatched the end of the chain to the inside of the gut pocket. That was modification 1, 2 if you count knitting him in green. Next before he was stuffed, I attatched his button eyes. One of them, and this doesn’t show too well, is dangling off of a thread. I reinforced the thread too much so it doesn’t dangle so much as pop out… Once he was stuffed, I added blood to his beak, duplicate stitched blood onto his flippers, and as the white chest piece is knitted separate, the splash of bllod is just random fair isle additions. Finally, when he was stuffed and all blood spattered with guts hanging out, I thought to myself, he needs something… more. And what did he get? A victim! I knitted a penguin head from the same pattern, doing it in the round instead of flat and adding a red ruffle at the bottom, to kind of simulate carnage of the first degree.

What do you think? I see a whole legion of zombie pengins in my future.

I’m so excited about your Christmas box, just so I can see my husband’s face when he gets his Spooky penguin! Well, and because there’s something for me too, :) But I’m just so happy about the penguin!
