Project Slut

I can't commit to one project. I'm a project slut.

I'm sick of my grandma's socks. But we're pulling out of Lancaster sometime on Thursday so I have 3 days to finish the othe sock. *sigh* There's just so much else I wish I could be knitting. La la la. I have my lovely Artyarns regal silk that I could be knitting up into a bag or my corset top. I could be doing my market squares bag, my kitty pi bed for Maggie, finding new yarn for the felted boxes from Mason Dixon Knitting, picking up Rogue again... casting on for my sister's socks. Anything but these socks.

Is it the yarn? purple and green? (Lorna's Laces Jungle Stripes) or is it the intended recipient?

*sigh*

Recreational Therapy: My Thursday in Pictures

First a stop off at Mom's house to take a picture of the new fur-baby, a Yorky puppy named Maggie. For some reason I can't get Rod Stewart out of my head now:

Isn't she adorable? I already have a Kitty Pi bed in Karaoke planned for her. I have this insane urge to shower the puppy in hand knits. She's freaking cute.

Then a drive over to my sister's house where the fun really begins.

First we have the real work...

Weaving in all the ends of my felted nesting box from Mason Dixon Knitting. I was really, really stoked about this project. The second I finished weaving in the ends from the first of my grandma's socks I cast on for this project and I knit like I was a woman possessed. I was crrrrraaaaazy.

Click to see it bigger! Isn't it cute? I was so so so excited!

And of course. I shouled have swatched. Yeah the yarn SAID it was 100% untreated wool. It should have felted. After 3 washes in really hot water. What it shouldn't have done is this:

Yes, ladies and gentlemen that is the SAME thing. Only it's somehow QUADRUPLED IN SIZE! We threw it in the tumble drier and it came back out "alright" but not felted. No ammount of washing will felt this wool. Damnit. So, lesson learned, when in doubt, swatch and felt. SWATCH SWATCH SWATCH. Damnit.

Some mild hilarity. My sister is chain stitching for me while I entertain the bratling. Notice the yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, and starbucks? All the things that make my day-- and the company of loved ones. What more could anyone ask for???

Also, I would like to give kudos to Kellar as all photos of me from this post were taken by him, my nephew and he is 3 years old. LOL. What a cutie.

camping

this was how my *ahem* wonderful camping get away went. Got lost. Got car stuck in sand. Got towed out of sand (tow truck got stuck and required rescue) LOST WALLET. Came home early.
and then of course I managed to find that wonderful black hole of knitting doom in my grandmother's sock and knit for what seemed like forever on her damn sock and got abso-friggin-lut-ly NOWHERE on it. Until, of course, this morning while I was stumbling, bleary eyed through Wally-world (walmart to those of you who don't visit it daily) following the pervert as he traipsed down the aisles exclaiming in joy (he loves walmart--- it has to be a mutant gene or something.) Anyhow, there I was, half asleep ball of sock yarn thrust into the pocket of my hoodie valiantly knitting, muttering curse words under my breath to which my husband asks, "Is one of the side effects of your medication Tourette's?" when I discover that FINALLY I have gotten the magic 6 inches from the back of my heel to where I am and can begin decreasing for the toe! Angels didn't break out in a chorus or anything, but I broke out in a boogie, which only made my husband cluck his tongue reprovingly and mutter Tourette's again. Anyhow, the sock, she is finished!!

And I, like any true knitter, cast on... for a felted box from Mason Dixon Knitting within 45 of grafting my toe! Because casting on for the sister sock would only make way to much sense!!! And I really really want the felted box. Bad. I bought the book on Friday and fell in love with about 4 of the projects, which, frankly means that it's a keeper.

Take care,

Angela

oh to my SP 8

I got your email and will respond asap in the morning. I'm falling asleep at the keyboard over here.

*whine*

I'm spitting mad. Why? Because the whole plot behind 'An American Haunting' was effing retarded and asinine. It was craptastic. I wanted to be scared and instead I came out annoyed. Uggggh.

Come on we need some good horror movies!!

I go chicken hunting...

Cuteness...

The chicks line up in a row on the curb.
Left to right you have: my chick, my sister's chick who is in memorial of our old dog gretchen (long story) Megan's chick, Kellar's chick (yes the one with x's for eyes), and my sister's other chick. She felted the fifth chick while I made flat felt.

Chicks in the grass.

We finally felted the chick kit from Peace Fleece via kpixie.com yesterday, it was WAY more fun that I thought. We put way too much soap in them but eventually they felted, it was an good experience and I think the kids had a blast. My nephew was adorable, chanting duck feet at the top of his lungs when it was time to put the feet on. :) I got to wet felt a flat piece of felt which was very interesting, the kit came with a little write up on felting. All I have to say is thank heavens I don't live in a yurt or I'd have a MIGHTY drafty home!!! :)

Have a happy day.

Podcasts: In Which Angela Talks Of Many Things

For some reason my title makes me think of the song, "Little Lotte" from The Phantom of the Opera. I've been busy avoiding getting any actual sleep, ha ha ha. Sleep, what's that? Last night I was dead tired at 1 but decided to stay up and wacth Numb3rs, Doctor Who, two episodes of ER, and Alias. I have something to say about all of them but first: PODCASTING!

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present my very first podcast ever! The Diva Knits (Until I decide on a better name). Basically I just talk about podcasting, alpacas, and what I am knitting. Please let me know what you think!! :)

ok. Another shout out to DEB who likes to cheer her self up at Office Depot. Please email me ASAP so I can mail you the yarn!! Also, my sister has informed me that I have 2 boxes of yarn in her garage (OMG how could I misplace 2 boxes of yarn?!? this is an illness I am sure!!) So there will be another contest in the future. :)

Now, onto my television watching efforts of last night. :)

First, Numb3rs: I am so over the Charlie/Amita thing. I just don't like Amita very much and am sick of Charlie mooning over her. Move on!
Now, Doctor Who: I love the new Doctor. He rocks! He cracks me up and has such a zest for life, and this last 2 part story arc was quite creepy (are you my mummy) and the only disappointment was that they went back and saved the time agent con-man. geeze. Also, I was glad the Doctor danced with Rose.
ER: The episode where Pratt was in Darfur was ok. *yawn* The one where Gallant died stopped my heart. My heart is bleeding for Neela, but I have been waiting for them to do this all season long because really, how were they going to keep that going? And I love the Neela/Ray thing. I do. Also I loved Clemente's little manic thing; it rocked.
Alias: Sigh. I think that they took waaaaaaaaaay too long to go back on the air and they lost their momentum and now they are just regurgitating everything. It all seems stale and old and frankly, boring. Oooh! Sloane pulled something underhanded! Wow someone was cloned! Uh oh a dead person wasn't dead! ergh

Changes and SP8

So SP8 begins! Yay! I have my match finally. Woo hoo! I'm all excited. I love this part. I haven't heard from my SP7 as to whether or not she recieved my final package and I haven't heard from my SP6(knittyboard) as to whether or not she recieved hers either, so I am a little glum about that. But anyhow.

Does anyone know about much about blogs and stuff. Like if something I post in one blog can be read on another blog through rss just under a different template? Also, I am thinking about scrapping my website (it's crap) and moving my blog to theknittingdiva.com can I just leave my atom feed thingy where it is and will everything be ok?

And finally... last night I downloaded Audacity and am going to be doing a podcast. The name of my podcast is going to be called Last On the Bandwagon or something like that, and it's going to be primarily focussed on how I am so slow to get ontop of stuff like ROAKing, SPing, the Charlotte's Web, etc. I am doing 2 projects right now that apparently were really hot AWHILE back, which I find deeply amusing.

Anyhow, toodles for now, and happy mother's day to all of the mothers out there and mine.

I hope you dream of silk

Like I said earlier, the Artyarns regal silk came today. OMG. OMG. OMG. I will never knit anything else again. That's an overstatement but it's like knitting an orgasm. It's so soft and dreamy and ooooooh it's beautiful. The cool thing (to me) is how it seems to bloom as you knit it. It showed up in this tiny little hank that seemed impossibly thin. I felt cheated. By the time I had wound it into a ball it had fluffed up a little better but I didn't believe I would ever get gauge with size 7 or 8 needles on this yarn (and have a reasonable fabric) but you do!! As you knit the yarn plumps up, I can't explain it; it's wierd and cool and amazing. It's also gorgeous. Tomorrow or Saturday I will post some samples of the brocades that I bought for the lining of my purse and you all can help me choose. I am no good at sewing but the pervert is! Hooray for the pervert!

I just found out this evening (yay!) that the pervert won't be going to Hawaii this summer, that he will have back to back jobs in San Diego (double yay!) so he will be in visiting distance and maybe I can finagle a visit to Sea World for the kiddos (since he works for my mom and dad, may as well drag my nephew with) into the deal. Anyhow, before the summer season begins, he's going to have a week off so next weekend we are going camping. Lalalalalala I haven't been camping since the fateful camping trip where we begat/begot/begetted/whatever the Megbeast. We're either going to the Littlerock dam (snore) or the Colorado River near Blythe, California (Yeehaw!) I am sure you can tell which I am rooting for. I am thinking of trying to convince my sister into coming with. We could make it a double thing. The kids would love it and since it would be just a Friday to Sunday thing the husbeasts would be ok (mine has the week off but hers doesn't)

ps
posting in the middle of the night has got to stop soon!!!!

And the winner is...

Deb. But she needs to contact me ASAP because I can't view her profile to let her know!!! Eeek!
Congratulations Deb! Your Office Max therapy made me smile and every time I have passed an Office Max and or Staples I have smiled and thought of you--- which is awesome. I haven't brought myself to go shopping for office supplies, because I could get lost in that kind of a store, lol.

Please email me at angelafoltz-at-yahoo-dot-com with your snail mail address for me so I can ship this out to you! :)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I was so happy today when I got my mail because my order from kpixie got here and the artyarns regal silk is gorgeous I spent the first fifteen minutes after opening it stroking the life out of it like it was a living creature.

ARGH. CRAP. I haven't scanned my sister's pictures. fudge. crud. Oh well.

talk to you all later

itchy feet

i want to move. i hate living here. don't get me wrong, I love that it's MY house. It's just that it's tiny, the garden is nonexistent, the park management sucks ass, the morgtgage company is really just a bunch of shysters, and when I visit my sister's house *sigh* it's a REAL house. It doesn't shake when the wind blows.

I've been thinking about a dome home again but really I would probably end up getting bored with it.

argh

I love the font. My lips are all swollen from the lip plumper stuff...ewww. I am going to go wipe the crap off my face because I was hoping a shower and some make up would cheer me up but it hasn't worked so far so I am thinking it won't be working at all. damnit.

grrrr.

Windy

So I only got one epsiode of Numbers (am I the only one who thinks David Krumholtz is simultaneously hot and annoying and Charley Eppes?) and 3 triangles done on the market squares bag. But in all fairness I was called away four different times by phone calls so I can't say it was a wasted evening.

The wind is blowing really hard (nothing new for the Antelope Valley) and I am longing to just go lay down and listen to it blow but I have five or six minutes left of the program to watch (there was yet another phonecall) and after that I have to sadly put away my knitting...

My bells are ringing beautifully in the wind, making me wish I had more. I love heavy windchimes and bellys, technically all my windchimes are bells--- I should take a picture tomorrow and post them on the blog. One string came from an Oxfam in East London, one came from the Poppy Festival last year, and then the other was bought when our local Joanns was deep DEEP discounting EVERYTHING because they were leaving Lancaster for Palmdale. I forgave them eventually because the new Joanns is like a crafting orgasm and puts Michaels to shame. You could get lost there forever--- and they have a pretty decent (no "good" name brands of yarn, but their own line of yarn is looking quite nice) yarns too.

ttfn

Angela

ARGH! I meant to say! I noticed that I am listed under someones list of blogs they read!! My SP 6 *she was my spoiler not spoilee* over at Conciously Naive So I am giving her a great big HELLO THERE!!!

Knitting

So I am completely ignoring my grandma's socks for the lure of the market squares bag. I just never realized how much I missed using big needles (when you've been using 1s and 3s size 8s feel huge!!) so that is cool. I am about to take a shower and settle down for an hour or two of tv and try to get the first tier of the bag done, since I finished doing the hem part today @ Dr. Berman's office.

I wanted to announce that my blog contest officially ends on Thursday night so don't forget to post your answer to the question: How do you cheer yourself or someone else up? in the comments section of my blog before then to win a 13 gallon bag of yarn absolutely free *postage paid!*

take care

angela

It's all about Me.

So I have finally! decided that it was time to knit something for me. And now I am innundated with ideas. The Market Squares bag from Bags, a Knitter's Dozen--- and good news I have enough Kureyon in my stash to do it w/out spending $$$. Which is good because the crocheted corset in the new Vogue Knitting sent me on a tear looking for knitted corsets and I found Annie Modesitt's Corset Tank Top which is absolutely gorgeous. And will wonders never cease but the largest size will fit me so I can do it; yay! I'm happy. I also love the cap sleeve pattern by Nicky Epstein which is on the page facing the crochet corset in VK.

I have to tell you, my top favorite 3 published designers are Nicky Epstien (she is just playful, I think) Debbie Bliss because she is classic and I learned to knit on several of her books, and Adrienne Vitadini just cuz. :)

I was bad. Two weeks ago I bough a bunch of sock yarn and some lilac yarn (can't remember the type) at Wildfiber. I just ordered some Artyarns Regal silk from kpixie.com along with a mix of lilac and baby colors. :) The Artyarns is for *ahem* yet another bag. Either "Three For The Road" or "SoHo Sling" from the same books as the market squares bag.

Anyhow, I have wasted enough of today avoiding work so I should leave. First I drove to my sister's to drop of creamer and pick up analgesics, came home to relax. Then I went out again with my sister, returned the rollerblades, bought some headbands, went to a salon and got a manicure/pedicure and waxed my eyebrows, followed that with a visit to Payless and bought a pair of sandals with leather like butter, and finished up with a somewhat dismal meal @ Black Angus. I say somewhat dismal because the potato skins were apparently inedible to me, there was nothing appetizing on the kid's menu for me, the food they had was just... blah, so I ended up with a bowl of potato soup which is incorrectly named--- it should be named ONION and potato soup. So I ordered a Kaluha Colada and that was tasty but really I only had about five sips. My sister felt guilty but I had fun eating her croutons. ;)

I honestly feel about as girly and sex-in-the-city woman of the millenium that I ever will; a visit to a salon, shoe shopping (although to be truthful I was after the free purse) and a lunch with girly drinks.

frustrations

You know, it's hard to deal with accepting a diagnosis when you have your mother telling you that the only thing wrong with you is that you are "and always have been" a hypochondriac. In essence, you have been wasting your time going back and forth to the doctor's office every week just for attention.

Christmas Cards!

Have you recieved a Christmas card from me? Don't blame the postal system--- blame me!

I was all set to mail them before my surgery in December (12-13-05) but not done stuffing them, so I took them with me to the hospital. I ended up not being able to do them while in the hospital and then my car was left in overnight parking until right before Christmas. I was still recovering by then and in January they hiked up the price of stamps (they were all stamped with 37c stamps...) so I had to find time to go get 2c stamps. Then... they sat. For months. Under my desk.

Until Sunday in a fit of mania (I guess) I did ALL OF THEM! in one go. :) I also accidentally set the bag of cards on fire with a candle on my desk so a few of them got a little singed, please dont' panic. I was thinking of you all, and I hoped you enjoy them.

Angela

day at the beach

Today I went to Wildfiber (again) and got 2 books and a needlefelting kit. The chicks from kpixie turned out to be wet felting, :( oh well.

Since Wildfiber was relatively quick we headed out to the pier and had a grand old time!

Me, my sister, and my nephew. I am the darkhaired one on the left.

We had a blast--- it was a lot of fun.

'drinking champagne, feeling no pain, till early mornin'

Yeah. In about five hours I will be in agony, but right now I am feeling nice and... well greased. LOL. A bunch of use from Human Sexuality (my late Monday night class) went to the Tipsy Bull to celebrate the semester's end with alcohol, thinly veiled sexual innuendo, and karaoke. I had a "melonball" which was a fruity mixed drink and then 2 of a milk and more drink called a "muddy snow" or something. I am, officially, the most wasted I have been in four years. It feels bizarre. Mostly because of the way my body is processing it, but there you go.

A security guard @ the college hit on me tonight (shudder) and we ran into a person who I had sex with at the bar. All around it was an interesting evening.

Here's what I sang (and in order)

Baby Got Back-- sir mix alot (a fat chick singing this song... lmao)
Build Me Up Buttercup--- I forget
The Alabama Song--- The Doors
You Can Leave Your Hat On--- Tom Jones
The Humpty Dance--- Digital Underground
Lady Marmalade--- Pink and the rest of em
Since U Been Gone--- Kelly Clarkson
Don't Tell Me--- Avril Lavigne
I Touch Myself--- The Divinyls

There might even be another but I can't remember. I had a blast.
